Avanti Architects has, for many years, been involved in the design of mainstream residential and health buildings and we are able to bring our experience from these fields to the design of more specialised buildings for people with special needs. We believe that where people require a high level of care and support, the design of the buildings they inhabit can provide a therapeutic environment that makes a significant contribution to the independence and well-being of the individual.
We take a particular interest in the design of buildings for people with special needs because, in designing them, it is particularly necessary to question social preconceptions about the everyday environment we inhabit. Our track record includes the design of residential buildings for ex-offenders, recovering alcoholics, homeless single women, people with HIV, and sheltered housing for older people. We have completed a new therapy centre and residential school for children with multiple disabilities and complex health needs and have made alterations to the London Lighthouse, a day centre for people with HIV and AIDS.
We have recently commenced phase II of a project in Ireland that includes housing for physically handicapped adults, a hostel for mentally ill adults, a residential home for elderly mentally infirm people, a day hospital for elderly people, and a day centre for mentally ill people.
