This PFI project creates a significant addition to a 1960’s District General Hospital, provides a striking architectural contrast to the existing ward tower and podium block to which it is attached and creates a new urban presence for the hospital. The scale of the new building is appropriate for a service that is open and welcoming to all. The building is no more than three storeys and is a composition of blocks creating a linear campus of different building types. By strategic use of the new development the whole hospital becomes zoned into elective and emergency care.
